Before – a big fan of sth/sb: rất hâm mộ ai/cái gì

confidence (n): sự tự tin

to start a conversation with sb: bắt chuyện với ai đó

Now – grateful (adj): biết ơn

to grow out of sth: dừng làm gì đó

Well, I used to be a big fan of many US-UK singers like Miley Cyrus or Justin Bieber because of their amazing singing voice and also their confidence. You know, before I knew about them, I had never been confident enough to start a conversation with strangers. But now, I can even sing in front of those whom I met for the first time. I still feel grateful for that, but I’ve grown out of their music.

2. Would you want to be a celebrity?

Honestly, when I was a kid, I used to dream of becoming a famous person one day so that I could earn a huge amount of money and wear fashionable clothes, you know. But now, these things don’t appeal to me as much as they once did, and plus, being a celeb means a lot of pressure, so I don’t think I would want to become famous any longer.

3. Do you think we should respect famous people’s privacy?

Without a doubt. I think it’s a basic human right, regardless of who you are. I guess in the past, celebrities would often enjoy more privacy than they do these days, because they are now followed not only by paparazzi but also by their fans and anti-fans. That being said, I think they may still have to accept it as a part of their career. I mean once you choose to become a celebrity, it means that you’ve accepted to somehow sacrifice your privacy. 

II. Luyện nói Part 2

Part 2: Describe a famous person that you are interested in.

You should say:

  • Who this person is.
  • How you know about this person.
  • What this person is famous for.
  • Why you are interested in this person.

Well, a famous person that really interests me is Chi Pu, a Vietnamese actress and pop singer. Actually, during the first years of her career, she was a model. At that time, people would often see Chi Pu on the cover of many well-known magazines for teenagers. I first saw her when I was a secondary student and I was immediately attracted by her beautiful appearance. 

Chi Pu had been acting for years before she started her singing career just a few years ago. She immediately received public attention, not because of her talent, but because of her terrible voice when singing live. But I still considered it a success because at least she did reach a wider audience. As a matter of fact, many people had not heard of Chi Pu before she became a singer.

Anyway, I still admired her when she was an actress for her dedication and hard-work. Now, I’d say that I’m still interested in her, because her music is really catchy. I wouldn’t attend her live concerts though. 

III. Tổng kết ngữ pháp + luyện nói lần 2

Hãy xem lại tổng kết ngữ pháp trong các sample phía trên và luyện nói lại các câu hỏi một lần nữa. 

Thì Quá khứ hoàn thành đã được sử dụng trong một số câu sau:

  • As a matter of fact, many people had not heard of Chi Pu before she became a singer.
  • You know, before I knew about them, I had never been confident enough to start a conversation with strangers.

Thì Quá khứ hoàn thành tiếp diễn đã được sử dụng trong câu sau:

  • Chi Pu had been acting for years before she started her singing career just a few years ago.  

Used to đã được sử dụng trong một số câu sau:

  • Well, I used to be a big fan of many US-UK singers like Miley Cyrus or Justin Bieber because of their amazing singing voice and also their confidence.
  • When I was a kid, I used to dream of becoming a famous person one day.

Would đã được sử dụng trong một số câu sau:

  • I guess in the past, celebrities would often enjoy more privacy than they do these days.
  • At that time, people would often see Chi Pu on the cover of many well-known magazines for teenagers. 

Lưu ý: Cấu trúc “would” xuất hiện trong câu “I wouldn’t attend her live concerts though” không phải là trường hợp dùng “would” ở thì quá khứ. Trong khi would dùng ở thì quá khứ để diễn tả những hành động lặp đi lặp lại nhiều lần trong quá khứ, “would” dùng trong câu “I wouldn’t attend her live concerts though” để nói về kết quả của một tình huống giả định. Cụ thể trong câu trên, giả định rằng nếu có ai cho tôi vé đi live concerts của Chi Pu thì tôi cũng không đi, tuy nhiên vế “nếu” đã được lược bỏ đi.
