Yes, I do. To be honest, I believe donating money to charity is a kinda way to build a strong sense of community. Because if I give money to a charity or any non-profitable organization, they could help the underprivileged somehow have a better life.
No, I haven’t. Honestly, I think volunteer work is a little bit time-consuming. I don’t have much leisure time so I just want to spend some me-time on my hobbies to recharge my batteries after a tiring working week. I may think about working as a volunteer in the future if I have time.
Currently, I don’t. As I’m doing a full-time job so I do not have enough time for myself, let alone other activities. I’m fully occupied with my work so I’d rather spend my spare time on leisure activities.
Well, I’d say it’s very common in Vietnam that we donate our clothes or books which we don’t need anymore to children living in remote areas if we do not have money. Since we were in primary school, there were many donating projects for students to raise their awareness about our community.

I’d like to talk about my valuable experience when I worked as a voluntary event supporter for the Hanoi vaccination campaign in my district last year.
I have to admit that the Covid-19 pandemic was a tough time for people in my country, especially for Hanoians. Therefore, being able to help the whole community during that stage is my honor. The program took place in Chua Lang Street. The campaign aimed to help the locals of all ages get fully vaccinated.
I participated in this campaign because I suffered from depression and anxiety disorder badly as I stayed indoors for ages. The campaign lasted only for 4 days, I had to get up at about 5 a.m in the morning and travel to the place and prepare for it. I wasn’t a morning person so I often felt exhausted in the morning but when it comes to the local people who were in need of my help, I was motivated to get out of bed. My primary task was to look after the locals after they were vaccinated to see if they suffered from any side effects or they needed any help, and I also did other jobs such as setting up the equipment and cleaning the hall at the end of the day. Fortunately, no one had adverse reactions to the vaccine. Honestly, due to Covid-19, we needed to stay indoors for months so I thought all of the Hanoi citizens felt increasingly isolated as they hardly talked to anyone. But during that voluntary period, I heard a lot of stories of people from different backgrounds about how they struggled with their life during the pandemic. And despite the worse situations of the pandemic, they looked on the bright side as thanks to the pandemic, they could spend more quality time taking care of their beloved family members. They also had more me-time to take up new hobbies so as to keep themselves in a healthy state of mind. I felt like I’d made a contribution to making our society a better place to live. After the campaign, I also met a lot of interesting peers who had a lot of things in common with me and we still keep in touch up to now. It would be no exaggeration to say that volunteering that time really helped me to recharge batteries and inspired me to find a way of keeping my life on the right track.

Well, in my country, when an organization needs manpower to help with particular social activities, they will recruit volunteers. For example, when the Covid-19 pandemic broke out in Vietnam 2 years ago, the government established a lot of field hospitals all over our country. However, due to the limitation of human resources, these hospitals had to recruit a large number of volunteers from medical universities to help take care of the patients.
Well, I gotta admit that I’m a socially awkward person so I am not into activities involving comforting people by listening to their upheavals and advising them on how to get out of their troubles, I’m not willing to do public speaking or knock on doors or make phone calls. I’d be much happier if I can help with cleaning the room or cooking meals.
I believe that doing voluntary work helps me to expand my social circle. As I can make friends with a lot of interesting individuals who also love devoting their time and effort to building a better community. In addition, perhaps, volunteering also helps me counteract my stress and depression. Individuals, nowadays, especially gen Z often find themself struggling with their mental problems as they spend so many hours doing a nine-to-five job. So in my opinion, volunteering is a kinda way to escape temporarily from my chaos in life for self-reflection as it involves a variety of physical activities.
