Dưới đây là một số câu hỏi giám khảo có thể đề cập đến:

  1. Do you like reading?
  2. Do you read electronic books?
  3. What kind of books do you like to read?
  4. What were your favorite books as a child?
  5. Have you lent books to others?

1. Do you like reading? (Bạn có thích đọc không?)

Yes, I’m an avid reader (một người thích đọc sách) ! I believe that books are a way to not only gain more knowledge (lĩnh hội kiến thức), but escape also. By the same token, people who read tend to have a higher level of general knowledge and richer vocabulary (giàu vốn từ hơn/ vốn từ phong phú hơn) so they tend to have more to talk about, and are thus more interesting.

2. Do you read electronic book? (Bạn có đọc sách điện tử không?)

Definitely yes. I’m a real sucker for e-books (rất thích cái gì) as they are portable (nhẹ, di động) I often download my favorite books and copy them to my Ipads or smartphones and when I’m on the bus in other public places, I will take my high-tech devices out and start to read right on my phone.

3. What kind of books do you like to read? (Bạn thích đọc loại sách nào?)

I love reading anything that falls under literary fiction (văn học viễn tưởng) and Encyclopedia (Bách khoa toàn thư). Speaking of my favorite books, I can’t get enough of (cực kỳ thích) Kafkar on the shore! I’m also a big fan of its author – Haruki Murakami

4. What was your favorite book as a child? (Bạn thích cuốn sách nào khi còn bé?)

I remember being very fond of (thích) a book called “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland”. I recall that it was the story of a young girl named Alice falling through a rabbit hole into a fantasy world (thế giới kỳ diệu) of imaginary creatures (những sinh vật không có thật). Well, as far as I know, this story is seen as a typical work of its genre (thể loại).

5. Have you lent books to others? (Bạn đã cho người khác mượn sách chưa?)

Yes, I love to share the knowledge (chia sẻ kiến thức) that I have with everyone around me. My friends and I are avid readers and would love to exchange books with one another. So, I often lend my books, mostly English and Japanese books to my besties (bạn thân – thường là con gái) and get in return some comic, and fiction books to read in my free time.

Các câu hỏi và câu trả lời mẫu

Describe an exciting book that you enjoy reading
You should say
When you read it?
What kind of book it is?
What is it about?
Explain why you think the book is exciting?

NOTE: Với part 2, các bạn sẽ nói về một chủ đề trong khoảng từ 1-2 phút. Các bạn có 1 phút để take note ý tưởng các bạn muốn triển khai.

Câu trả lời mẫu:

Introduction:

  • Books play an essential role in every student’s life or person’s life because they are a gateway to a sea of knowledge, introduce them to a world of imagination, improve their reading, writing, speaking skills, and boost memory and intelligence.
  • I like to read motivational stories and investigation-related books.
  • Today, I would like to talk about an investigation-related book.

When you read it?

It was last year, when I was bored stiff (buồn chết đi được) with nothing to do, and one of my friends introduced it to me (giới thiệu nó với tôi).

I just happened to know about it a couple of years ago.

And what kind of book is it?

The book’s name is “crime and punishment”. It is a novel written by the Russian author Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoyevsky. It was first published in the literary journal The Russian Messenger in 1866. It is a detective book (sách trinh thám) written based on an actual crime (một tội ác có thật). The main character in the book is a murderer.

What is it about?

The book explains a murderer’s point of view, behavior, and emotions before and after the murder. The highlight (điểm nổi bật) of the book is a thoughtful analysis of psychological development (diễn biến tâm lý) of the murderer. He is a dangerous offender who is willing to sacrifice others’ lives for his own gains.

Explain why you think the book is exciting?

Although the book was quite heavy going (khó hiểu) in the first few chapters, where the author was describing the background of the murderer, I found it easier to get the flow of the book (mạch của cuốn sách) in the next chapters. What’s more? I’m quite into the progress of investigating crime of the police. With just a few clues left in the crime scene, the police could define the identity of the murder. It was so interesting that I couldn’t put the book down (đặt quyển sách xuống – không đọc sách nữa).

IELTS Speaking Books – Part 3

Dưới đây là một số ví dụ về câu hỏi giám khảo sẽ trao đổi với các bạn trong part 3 của bài thi Speaking.

1. Do you prefer movies or books?

As an avid reader, I’m more into books. I suppose they could capture (nắm bắt được) details and emotions of characters better than movies. To tell you the truth, I’ve watched some movies adaptations (phim chuyển thể) of some books, but they did not live up to my expectation (không như tôi kỳ vọng). I mean the actors in those movies failed to (không làm được điều gì) express the actual feelings of the book characters. Well, another reason that I like books better is that I love the sense of touching books as well as flicking through book pages (lật các trang sách).

2. Do you think it is important to read the book before playing games or watching the movie version of it?

No, not really. I suppose some people can still enjoy playing their games or watching their movies without reading books in advance. Simply, what makes people interested in games or movies is their catchy images (hình ảnh bắt mắt) or lively sound effects (hiệu ứng âm thanh sống động) not their plot (cốt truyện). Besides, they might not have time to read a whole book, so watching a movie would save them a large amount of time. Having said that, I reckon that people should try reading a book before watching a movie so that they could better understand the idea that the movie or the book is communicating (truyền đạt).

3. Do boys and girls like the same kinds of books?

From my observation, boys and girls tend to read different kinds of books. As boys are normally more active than girls, so they might like something adventurous. For that reason, detective or murder books might be more to their tastes (hợp gu). However, when it comes to girls, they tend to be more social and fashion conscious (quan tâm đến thời trang), so they often read fashion magazines or cooking books.
